PROBATE I KATHERINE NEWCOMB now of No 5 Bethel Place Camberwell in the county of Surrey spinster being of sound mind do hereby declare this to be my last will and Testament I do hereby direct that all my debts and expenses shall be paid as soon as possible after my decease And I hereby bequeath whatever money or monies may be in hand or due to my estate that can be legally recovered (and which I direct shall be recovered as soon as may be after my decease) equally between my two sisters Ann Sophia Newcomb and Jean Greig Newcomb I do also direct that my trinkets except those that I may hereafter bequeath shall be divided between my two afore mentioned sisters I do also direct that my books except those that I may hereafter bequeath shall be equally divided between my aforementioned sisters I do also direct that my body be decently and respectably interred in a vault in the church of St Brides Fleet Street the vault in which are interred my parents and some of my family I give and bequeath to my brother William Charles Newcomb all plate that I may possess at time of my decease And I also bequeath to the aforesaid William Charles Newcomb all money that I possess in the funds namely stocks in the “Long Annuities” producing sixteen shillings per annum the aforementioned money so bequeathed as aforesaid to and between my aforementioned sisters is as follows four hundred pounds lent to my uncle Lieutenant Colonel James Smith now or late of the East India Companies Service bearing interest at the rate of five pounds per centum per annum one hundred and seven pounds in like manner lent to my said uncle bearing interest at the rate of three pounds five shillings per centum per annum and a further sum of one hundred pounds in the like manner lent to my said uncle bearing interest at the rate of five pounds per centum per annum thirty five pounds ten shillings of which last sum has been paid by instalments The remainder of my property is in the hands of my friend Mr Henry Dearlove senior and is about one hundred pounds and I hereby appoint the said Henry Dearlove Executer of this my Will And I hereby authorize him to retain the money in his hands as aforesaid or a competent part thereof to defray the expenses of receiving or making arrangement for recovering the aforementioned property so lent to my uncle And I hereby make and publish this my last Will and Testament this twenty seventh day of June in the year of our Lord one thousantr eight hundred and forty eight. Katherine Newcomb Signed published and declared by the said Katherine Newcombe as her last Will and Testament in the presence of us who in her presence at her request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names and witnesses Henry George Dearlove 56 Margaret St Cavendish Square Lydia Tamplin 17 Bedford Place, Bloomsbury.

 

PROVED at London 13 March 1849 before the Worshipful Frederic Thomas Pratt Doctor of Lawes and Surrogate by the oath of Henry Dearlove the sole Executor to whom Admon was granted having been first sworn only to administer.
