JOHN JAMES SMITH This is the last Will and Testament of me John James Smith of Watford in the County of Herts paper manufacturer I give and bequeath unto my sister Sarah Gutteridge and unto my niece Sarah Gutteridge one hundred pounds each of lawful money of Great Britain and I would have testified my respect by leaving them more but divine providence has so kindly appeared for them I give and bequeath unto each of my Grand children for sons and daughters of my son James Smith fifty pounds each to accumulate for their benefit until twenty one and in case of the death of either of them the same to go to the survivor or survivors I give a bequeath out of my personal estate one hundred pounds of lawful money of Great Britain unto the Treasurers for the time being of the particular Baptists Fund whereof I am now a Treasurer I give and bequeath out of my personal Estate one hundred pounds unto the Treasurer for the time being of the Baptist Academy at Stepney for the use and benefit of such two last mentioned Societys respectively I give and bequeath out of my personal Estate one hundred pounds unto the Treasurer for the time being of the Fund for the relief of the Widows and Children of Protestant Dissenters whereof Ebenezer Shortland Esquire is now Treasurer I give and bequeath out of my personal Estate the sum of one hundred pounds unto the Treasurer for the time being of the Baptist Missionary Society to India whereof William Smith Esquire is one of the Treasurers and it is my will that the receipt and receipts of such Treasurers respectively shall be good and sufficient surcharges to my Executors for such four several Legacies I give and bequeath one hundred pounds to my Sons James Smith and William Lepard Smith In Trust to pay the interest thereof unto Mary Crayford wife of John Crayford for and during the term of her natural life to be free from the debts control and engagements of her present or any after taken husband and to be for her sole and separate use and her receipt and receipts from time to time to be a good and sufficient discharge and discharges for the same and the principal after her decease to sink into and become part of my Residuary Estate I give and bequeath unto my niece Sarah Salter daughter of my dear friend David Salter of Watford fifty pounds I give and bequeath to Reverend John Jones at present resident in Watford nineteen Guineas To Mr Martin Sedgwick Masters of Watford as a friend and not al all as connected with his professional attendance nineteen guineas to my Executors nineteen guineas to be distributed by them at their discretion among the poor members of the Baptist Church at Walford I give and bequeath to my Executors ten pounds to be distributed by them at their discretion among the poor and most needy members of the Wesleyan Methodist Church at Watford to David Adcock of Watford ten pounds and to John Crayford of Watford husband of the said Mary Crayford ten pounds To Mrs Susan King and Miss Susan King of Watford fifty pounds each To each of my three servants in Watford one years wages in addition to what may be due to them and as to all the Rest Residue and remainder of my Real and personal Estate and Effects that I shall or may be possessed of interested in or entered unto at the time of my decease of whatever description the same may be in anyway whatever I give devise and bequeath the same and every part thereof unto my sons James Smith and William Lepard Smith their heirs Executors auditors and assigns for ever as tenants in common and not as joint tenants I nominate my said sons James Smith and William Lepard Smith Executors of this my will and in case any difficulty shall arise in their minds as to this carrying it into execution it is my wish and recommendation that they should consult my Brother in Law their Uncle Joseph Guttridge Esquire from whom I have received perpetual acts of friendship particularly in my illness hereby revoking all other Wills In witness whereof I the Testator have to my last Will and Testament contained in four sheets of paper set my hand and seal my hand to the first three sheets and my hand and seal to the fourth and last sheet the nineteenth of February one thousand eight hundred and twenty one John James Smith as and for the last Will and Testament in the presence of us who in his presence at his request have subscribed our names as witnesses the words the same and four sheets being first introduced and the other alterations Chapman Barber Chancery Lane Joseph Highmore and Susan Terk Servants to Mr Guttridge.

Proved at London 7th April 1821 before the worshipful John Addams Dr of Laws and Surrogate by the oaths of James Smith and William Lepard Smith the sons the Executprs to whom admon was granted being first sworn duly to administer.
